David Coto

 

David Coto uses a guitar by Costa Rican luthier Juan Carlos Soto.

Presently David Coto is one of the most outstanding guitarists of the Central American region having obtained important prizes and recognitions at the international level as well as within his birth place of Costa Rica. Among these:

• First Prize – Central American Contest of Classic Guitar 2007 (San Pedro Sula, Honduras)

• Second Prize – Districts World Wilde Web Competition 2009, competition that counted on the participation of guitarists of more than 15 countries of Europe, Asia and America. In this contest Coto was also declared as “Visitor illustrates” by the municipality of San Juan Baptist of the Missions, native city of the famous composer and Agustín guitarist Mangoré Districts (Paraguay)

. • First prize – National Contest of Guitar of Costa Rica 2008 supported by the Spanish embassy and the Festival the International of guitar of Costa Rica.

• Declared “Student of honor” by the School of musical arts of the University of Costa Rica in 2007 and like “outstanding College student” during years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 by that same institution.

He began to play the guitar while an adolescent in the Conservatory of Castella, an institution of which he finished as a “Student of Honor”. Next he continued studying at the University of Costa Rica where the Cuban teacher Jorge Luis Zamora directed his study. Coto has appeared as a soloist in the most important festivals of guitar in Costa Rica such as: The International Guitar Festival of Costa Rica, Guitar Festival of San Jose, Festival “Young Guitar”, Festival of guitar of the West (UCR) and in important concert halls of countries like Colombia, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. Also He has participated like camera musician in diverse cultural events in Costa Rica such as the Festivales International of Arts 2005 and 2007, the Seminary of Musical Composition in 2008 and 2009, the cycle “Of music and musicians” of the cultural center of Spain, the Festival of summer “Transitarte” the Municipality of San Jose.

Between many others Coto has taken classes with several of the most important classic guitarists of the world emphasizing among them: David Russel, Eliot Fisk, Pepe Romero, Eduardo Fernandez, Red Berta Ernesto Lamb. In 2008 He founded the Festival of guitar of San Jose, activity that annually reunites in the Costa Rican capital, a fine selection of outstanding national and foreign guitarists. To date David Coto besides interpreter one evolves like educational independent and in one of the most prestigious academies of art of the country.
